Removing Firefox plugins, addons & extensions
Nearly 18 months ago I wrote a brief note about how to [intlink id=“54” type=“post”]remove certain firefox plugins, addons and extensions[/intlink] which don’t have a “remove” button in the Add-ons manager. I have updated and added to the original list, and will continue to add any further plugins I encounter here. If in doubt there is usually no harm done by leaving or removing any plugins, addons or extensions. I advise removing all of those that you don’t use as they are using memory and processing resources and slow firefox down. In some cases the stability of the browser can even be undermined by plugins.… Lees het volledige artikel

Switching the default WMP to x64 in Windows 7
One of the strangest things in Windows 7 x64 is the presence of both x86 and x64 versions of Windows Media Player 12. Even stranger is that despite Windows Media Center being 64bit only (and therefore requiring 64bit codecs) Microsoft saw fit to set the default WMP12 version to the x86 edition. For those of us who don’t wish to maintain 2 sets of codecs it is desirable to change this default status. However, Microsoft do not appear to have provided a simple way to do this as yet. So here’s how…

0Updating QT Lite & QuickTime alternative
I’ve long been a user of QuickTime Alternative, as a much lighter alternative to the full Apple QuickTime. Sadly QT Alternative (and its cousin QT Lite) hasn’t been updated in over a year, whilst QuickTime has received several security and bug fixes. Updating QT Lite is a straightforward process which I will detail below. I have also built an updated installer which is available on the [intlink id=“741” type=“page”]downloads page[/intlink]. This installer is based on Apple QuickTime 7.7.3 (28-Dec-2012)

64bit Xiph codec breaks file-type dialog in WMP12
In an [intlink id=“14” type=“post”]earlier article[/intlink] I recommended installing the Xiph codecs to support FLAC files in 64bit Media Player and Media Center. One of the comments (my thanks to thom007) on that post pointed out that the Xiph codecs break the “file type” dialog box in Media Player 12. Below is a work-around which restores the file-type dialog box. The possible side effects are as yet unknown, so experiment at your own risk.

Restoring Adobe Application Manager updates
In a recent update to Creative Suite 6 Adobe have changed the functionality of the Application Manager. This used to launch the same Application Updates window that is available when selecting Help: Updates from within any Adobe App, but it now launches a login window for Creative Cloud, which not all CS6 users have or want. A simple change will have the original functionality restored

Uninstall Haali Media Splitter x64
There is a beta (or maybe its Alpha) installer for Haali Media Splitter x64 out and about (for links to the installer see my previous post on [intlink id=“14” type=“post”]windows 7 x64 codecs[/intlink]). Sadly the uninstall seems to be broken, which can cause havoc when trying to diagnose codec issues. To remove Haali completely you need to unregister the following files manually using regsvr32 /u filename (from a command prompt run as administrator)
