Solo un post veloce, sembra che Microsoft ha finalmente fatto un browser web ragionevole, o almeno gli addetti Hardware di Tom sembra pensarla così.  Sono ancora in attesa di Firefox 4, e sperando Mozilla offrirà una versione a 64 bit come promesso, ma un po 'di concorrenza da parte della (ancora) dom­in­ant play­er in the browser mar­ket can­’t be a bad thing.

Recentemente ho usato Firefox 4 64un po' prebeta, noto anche come campo minato. Ho pensato che sarebbe stato interessante confrontare vari browser per vedere se questo supporta la mia sensazione che Minefield sia il browser più veloce che ho usato. Le conclusioni sono piuttosto interessanti. Continuerò ad aggiornare questa tabella man mano che vengono rilasciate nuove versioni

Ho un HTPC and a net­work serv­er on my net­work. My serv­er is always on, ma l' HTPC sleeps when it is not in use. If I want to sched­ule record­ings remotely I need a way to wake the HTPC.  The solu­tion I came up with is to provide a webpage on my serv­er (pass­word pro­tec­ted) that wakes the HTPC and then redir­ects to the web inter­face of the remote con­trol app of the HTPC.  Below is the code for any­one interested…

In addi­tion to this blog I also have a blog about recipes.  I decided that I wanted a print icon on the main page for each post so that people can print the recipes. Googling provided vari­ous sug­ges­tions, none of which worked. How­ever, I even­tu­ally cobbled togeth­er the fol­low­ing, which seems to work…

I recently encountered a very strange prob­lem in out­look 2007. E‑mails sent to large num­bers of recip­i­ents (approx 30) were suf­fer­ing from some cor­rup­tion where a large part of the head­er was appear­ing in the con­tent of the e‑mail. The appeared as a long string of ran­dom char­ac­ters fol­lowed by some text (eg “Sosha1_v1;7” and “x‑cr-puzzleid”) that sug­ges­ted the garbled text was part of the out­look anti-spam “post­mark” fea­ture. The e‑mail mes­sage appeared as nor­mal below this cor­rupt text. Anoth­er symp­tom of the prob­lem was e‑mail fail­ing to send prop­erly the first time send/receive was clicked.

Durante le vacanze di Natale mi è stato chiesto di guardare alcuni problemi con un PC famiglia. Uno dei problemi era un minore fastidio legato alla base modem DSL connessione ad internet. Il quadrante in scatola ha una casella di spunta che dice “connette automaticamente”. Anche se questa scatola è stata selezionata, quando il PC è stato riavviato quando è stata richiesta una connessione stessa finestra di dialogo rivelerebbe, con l'opzione unticked.
