Known compatibility problems

Inter­laced VC1

Cur­rently there are very few codecs which can cor­rectly decode inter­laced VC1 con­tent, such as that found on some BBC doc­u­ment­ar­ies (for example Life and Plan­et Earth).  The main open source codecs, ffd­show and gabest, are both built on the open source pro­ject ffm­peg.  Ffm­peg cur­rently doesn’t sup­port decod­ing inter­laced VC1.  Hope­fully this issue will even­tu­ally be resolved by fur­ther devel­op­ment of ffmpeg.
