After almost a year without any new official releases the MPC-HC developers have released 1.4.2499.0. As usual there is a x86 player, x64 player, x86 standalone filters and x64 standalone filters.

0Alternative covers for StarkCovers
A very quick one to drop in a link to some alternative covers I’ve made for StarkCovers which are available from the [intlink id=“741” type=“page”]downloads[/intlink] page. The basic reason for these is that I liked the look of the 3D covers, but found the angle of them sufficiently severe as to make it difficult to tell what some films were. I’ve basically twisted them to a different angle and replaced the 3D3 covers with this new version. Simply replace the contents of the original 3D3 folder with the contents of the linked archive.

0Reauthoring BluRay streams
I like having my movies stored on a server as I can use Media Center Master to download metadata, trailers, the IMDB rating, etc, which is useful when I have people round for a movie session. Consequently I have recently been adding some of my Blu Ray collection to my Media Server via the handy AnyDVD HD.

0Civilization V cheat
This cheat for civ 5 is widely posted already, however everywhere I can find it has lazily copied 1 original source, where the instructions are not very helpful. So I reproduce it here in a more helpful form.

0New IBN Studios upload
A user called “Chipmonkery” has uploaded a new studios pack to the [intlink id=“2659” type=“post”]IBN project[/intlink]. This doubles the previous number of studio images. Hopefully it will include many (or at least some) of the icons I listed in my [intlink id=“78” type=“post”]earlier post[/intlink]. I will update that post accordingly.
0Missing studios from IBN project
Below is a list I’m slowly compiling of Movie Studio logos that are missing from the [intlink id=“2659” type=“post”]Images By Name project[/intlink]. I hope to eventually locate sources for them all and at a convenient point will submit them to the project.
Crossed-out items are now included in the available downloads. Grey items are items that are alternative names for existing studios — these can be added by duplicating the relevant folder and renaming it.
0PSU Efficiency 2 — A typical gaming PC
Following on from the slight surprise that a new PSU is a poor investment for a low power PC I decided I’d reassure myself that an efficient PSU is a good investment for a typical “enthusiast” PC.
0Low power PC — new or old PSU
I have a server that operates 24.7. It occurred to me that I may be able to save some money on electricity bills if I could reduce its power consumption. It already has a low power AMD Sempron LE-1100 CPU so the power draw of the system should be quite low, but the PSU is quite old and not especially efficient. This got me thinking about Power supplies designed for low power systems. There are plenty of 80+ certified PSU’s out there with 500+ watt ratings, but are these actually worth the investment for a low power system?

0Advanced post-processing with Media Center Master
I use Media Center Master and StarkCovers to manage the metadata for all my local media on my HTPC. I like to have HD movies and DVDs use a different style of cover in stark to the style used by low quality files. The following command script accomplishes this (and a bit more)…
